Throw some Chunky Style on your Sofa

Your favourite show is back on TV, the nights are drawing in and the first chills of autumn are in the air. It can mean only one thing… It’s the perfect time to embrace the new season by adding a chunky style statement to your sofa with a fabulous knitted throw!

First up, it’s time to ditch any preconceptions of throws being old-fashioned. Flip through the pages of any home magazine and you’ll find sofas be-decked with artfully arranged throws in all varieties of material, colour and size. But the throw hasn’t just become a home décor essential, it’s also an extremely hard-working item: aesthetically, a throw can change the look of a room by providing a splash of colour or adding texture to an interior; a well-placed throw can give a new lease of life to a much-loved sofa that has seen better days; and of course, having a throw at hand to snuggle under on chilly evenings means you can keep the heating down by a few degrees (and save a few penguins, perhaps?).

The best thing about knitting your own throw is that you can tailor-make it to your own design and skill level. Go as complex or as simple as you dare with the pattern – newbie knitters may prefer straightforward stocking or garter stitch, while more seasoned knitters may prefer cable or basket weave. The key is to make the yarn the hero – opt for chunky, soft and tactile (you’ll be amazed at how quickly it knits up), and go for the best that you can afford, bearing in mind that it should be easy to wash, too. But most importantly, have fun creating a unique piece that can be proudly enjoyed for years to come!
