Why Knit Something You Can Buy?

It’s really easy to think of buying mass-produced knits in the shops as the ‘easier’ option. Sure, the item is available instantly and there’s no actual effort or time-commitment involved.

As a society we can all plead guilty to falling for convenience options from time to time. It’s just the way we’ve become. If you’re a fan of Uber or Deliveroo, you’ll know what I mean. And heck, why not? If it’s there and it saves some time, go for it.

The thing with knits though: are we really likely to keep that Primark polyester knit baby blanket in the family for more than one generation? I’d go so far as to say, “definitely not”.

The reason for that is simple – you don’t care about it. You’re not at all invested in the person who made it, and the shopping experience of obtaining this convenience knit, was dead easy. Immemorable.

Now, if you knit something for someone, you do hope that your recipient will know how much of your time, effort and, most importantly, love – has gone into your gorgeous gift.

Not only by knitting something for someone have you shown them that you really care about them, but you’re also able to customise the colours and size for a truly tailored gift. These special touches will show your giftee that you truly care about them and they’ll be much more likely to hold on to it and look after it. With any luck, they’ll keep it in the family for generations to come.

So don’t be put off by the cheapo mass-manufactured knit offering. Stick with your needles and you won’t be disappointed. Spread the love!
